Massachusetts Woman’s Suffrage Association is established.
January 28, 1870
It is founded by Lucy Stone, Henry Blackwell, Julia Ward Howe, Mary Rice Livermore, and others at a meeting in Horticultural Hall. A chapter of the American and New England Suffrage Associations, it shares office space with the Woman’s Journal initially at 3 Park Street. The MWSA organizes lectures, circulates and presents petitions and coordinates efforts with other states. It subsequently moves to 585 Boylston Street.
